Identical team results good, bad for Central

Obion Central’s girls were nearly unbeatable, while the Rebel boys barely avoided a winless day.
OC’s tennis teams were on both ends of 6-1 decisions Monday afternoon at Trenton, the Lady Rebels winning by that score and the boys losing in similar fashion.
Top seeds Marissa Howard and Lindsay Castellaw led the way for the OC girls, each winning their respective singles matches and then joining forces for a doubles win.
Howard topped Haley Branum 8-3 at No. 1, and Castellaw blanked Hannah Bridges 8-0 at the second seed. The two then held off Olivia Gibson and Chelsea Holley 8-6 at the top doubles spot.
Shelly Pate and Brean Stephenson were also winners in singles play, and Mallori Conley made up for her singles loss by teaming with Pate for a win in doubles play.
Austin Riley kept the Rebel boys from being shut out as a team, winning an 8-5 decision over Eli King at the No. 2 seed.
Riley teamed with Dallas Mathis in the only other close boys’ match, an 8-6 loss in the top doubles match.
OC’s girls won their second match in a row and second of the season over Trenton, improving to 4-5 on the season. The Rebel boys fall to 0-8.
Central is back in action today at the Obion County Fairgrounds courts, playing Halls at 4:30.
