A Union City man was charged with three offenses after a pit bull allegedly charged at a police officer Monday afternoon.
Kenya Wade Davis, 39, of 231 East Gibbs St. was issued citations for charges of violation of leash law, harboring a vicious animal and no proof of vaccination, according to a Union City Police Department report.
Police had responded Monday to a dog complaint at 229 East Gibbs St., where a resident told police he was out walking Monday when he was chased to his home by a large pit bull breed dog. The man claimed his neighbors were in the process of moving in and had dropped off two pit bulls about two weeks ago.
A police officer entered an alley to try to locate the dogs and saw a large gray pit bull charging toward him. The officer drew his service weapon and fired two shots, fatally striking the dog.
According to the report, the dog owner arrived on the scene and told police he had been keeping the animals inside a shed. He also allegedly indicated he did not have a record of the animals’ vaccinations.
Davis was issued citations for the three charges, with his court appearance set for April 29 at 4 p.m. in city court.
