Obion and Gibson County University of Tennessee Family and Consumer Science agents Benita Giffin and Barbara Berry will teach a six session program entitled “Take Charge of Your Diabetes” May 7, 9, 14, 16, 21 and 23 at 1:30 p. m. at the Obion County Public Library conference room in Union City.
Each class will last approximately two hours and is free to anyone interested.  “Take Charge of Your Diabetes” will build a diabetes knowledge base.
Mrs. Giffin and Ms. Berry are certified “Take Charge of Your Diabetes” instructors and will be using curriculum originating with Stanford University. Participants will gain self-care skills for managing their diabetes and learning to work effectively with their health care professionals.  Participants will receive a free $20 value “Living Well With Chronic Conditions” book at the completion of all six classes. Participants will be expected to attend all six sessions, if at all possible, since each class builds on the prior class, Mrs. Giffin said.
Those interested in the classes are encourage to call and leave their name and phone number by May 6 to register. Obion County residents may contact Mrs. Giffin at 885-3742 to register and may leave a voice mail after 5 p.m. In Gibson County, contact Ms. Berry at (731) 855-7656.
