“Why in the world would anybody start a Spring Chicken Festival?”  I have been asked this question many times since 2011, and the answer is actually quite simple. Hickman County, KY has over 200 chicken barns, more than any other county in the Commonwealth. That’s a bunch of chickens when you consider that most barns house between twenty to thirty thousand chickens.  Quite frankly, we are proud of our poultry producers and all things agricultural in Hickman County, and we want to celebrate it with our neighbors and friends.  The Annual Clinton-Hickman County Spring Chicken festival is held on the fourth weekend in April with festivities beginning with a Chicken Idol singing contest on Friday,  April 26th from 6-10pm.  On Saturday April 27th, we kick off the day with a 5k/10k race that begins in Clinton and runs through the beautiful countryside of Hickman County.  Throughout the day there will be live music by local artists from Carlisle, Hickman, and Fulton counties, and the Mark Hobbs and Best Response band will play from 1-3pm.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a festival without delicious food.  Food vendors will be selling a variety of foods including chicken, BBQ, corn dogs, hamburgers, pies, cakes, homemade cookies, and more.  Activities include: Arts/Crafts booths, a corn hole tournament, antique farm equipment, fun run for kids, and a Wild-Wing Cook-Off contest. This year we have added a petting zoo for the kids, in addition to the bump-n-jumps and games we have had in the past.  There is also The Finest of the Feathers pageant that will be held on Sunday, April 14th from 2-4pm at the Hickman County Elementary School. Folks, there’s a lot to do at the Spring Chicken Festival.  Go to clintonhickmancountychamber.com for more information, forms, and applications.
