Westover vandalized Posted: Monday, April 15, 2013 5:00 pm The Messenger, April 15, 2013 Union City police are investigating vandalism at the Westover Center for the Arts, located at 314 West Florida Ave. The vandalism was reported Friday by Westover Center for the Arts president Emily Elliston. According to a Union City Police Department report, Ms. Elliston told police someone entered the building some time in the last two weeks and broke holes in several of the walls in an apparent attempt to obtain copper or brass pipes or fixtures for scrap. She said most of this had previously been removed, so none was believed to have been taken. In addition, a slate chalkboard was defaced with orange paint. The point of entry is believed to be the building’s front main door, which had been chained shut. It was found open and the chain was missing, according to the report. Police reported it will take some time for Westover officials to assess all the damage. |
