For the second time in three months, MTD is closing a plant in Ohio. And this time the product line could be coming to Martin.

The Weakley County Press has learned that Commercial Turf Products in Streetsboro, Ohio, will close beginning June 14. More than 260 people work at the plant, which manufactures home lawn and garden equipment. The company has generated between $10-25 million in annual sales according to its Cortera Company Profile on the Internet.

“The termination of operations is expected to be permanent,” stated Roy Pullum, the executive vice president of global operations in his letter to Beth Brannigan, at the Office of Workforce Development in Columbus, Ohio.

In February, MTD closed Industrial Plastics Company, a plastic injection molding facility in Valley City, Ohio. MTD stated the move was designed to save money. Most of the work was moved to an underused facility in Leitchfield, Ky.
