Fulton awarded federal grant

Fulton Fire Department has been chosen to receive nearly $40,000 in federal grant money.
U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield said Thursday the Fulton Fire Department, as well as the Richland (Ky.) Volunteer Fire Department, are both recipients of Operations and Safety funding grants secured under the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
“Firefighting grants help ensure that our first responders have the resources they need to serve our communities,” said Whitfield, chairman of the House Subcommittee on Energy and Power. “I congratulate Richland Volunteer Fire Department and the City of Fulton Fire Department for receiving these awards.”
The Fulton Fire Department has received a $39,805 grant, while the Richland Volunteer Fire Department has received a $34,115 grant.
The purpose of the AFG is to award grants directly to fire departments and emergency medical services (EMS) organizations that are not affiliated with a hospital to enhance their ability to protect the health and safety of the public, as well as that of first responder personnel.
Using a competitive process that is overseen by fire service subject matter experts, grants are awarded to applicants whose requests best address the priorities of the AFG program.
