Sports Briefs Posted: Wednesday, April 10, 2013 12:00 pm Sharon T-ball sets registration dates There are four dates set up for T-ball registration at Sharon Park. Sign-up dates include: April 12 5:30-6:30 p.m.; April 16 6-7 p.m.; April 19 5:30-6:30 p.m.; and April 20 10 a.m.-noon. Registration forms will also be available at Sharon City Hall from Wednesday through April 22. The program is open to all boys and girls ages 5-8. The fee is $25 for one child and $45 for two. Pair of splits wrap up UT Martin road trip UT Martin grabbed a pair of splits in weekend Ohio Valley Conference softball action. The Skyhawks won 9-1 and lost 3-0 at Tennessee Tech on Saturday and then were on both ends of a 7-6 final score at Jacksonville State on Sunday. UTM will return host Southern Illinois on Wednesday. First pitch from Bettye Giles Field is slated for 4 p.m. Lauren Smith and Kenzi Tate homered for the Skyhawks in their loss to Jax State, while Leah Taylor homered twice and Kayla Wade tripled and scored for UTM in the second game. Saturday’s opener saw Lauren Smith extend her hitting streak to 11 games in the top of the fourth as the Skyhawks tallied five runs to blow the game open. Taylor did her best to lead the offense in the nightcap, reaching base twice and swiping her 29th stolen base of the season. 5K Teapot Trot set to help GC YMCA The Northwest Gibson County YMCA will host the 2013 5K Teapot Trot on May 2. Time for this year’s event will be 6 p.m. with the start and finish line at the Trenton City Hall. Entry fees are set at $15 in advance and $20 on the day of the event. For more information, call the YMCA at (731) 855-7516. Baseball tourneys at Cleveland State Cleveland State Community College will host a series of baseball tournaments this summer. The tourney schedule is: June 1-2: 16-and-under (enter by May 10); June 7-9:18-and-under (enter by May 17); June 15-16: 15-and-under (enter by May 24); June 22-23: 14-and-under (enter by May 31); June 22-23: 13-and-under (enter by May 31).
