Business of the Month: Christie’s Photography

Christie Ricketts said she has always loved photography.
When her children were born, Ricketts said she was constantly taking new pictures of them, because she wanted to capture every moment of their young lives.
With the help of a retired professional photographer, Ricketts turned that love for taking photos into a business.
Christie’s Photography opened in June 2004 and is the Martin Business Association’s business of the month for April.
Taking photos of her kids made Ricketts want to learn more about photography.
“I am very blessed to have a retired professional photographer, Tom Frey, as my teacher and mentor,” she said. “He has taught me an abundance on studio lighting and posing.”
In the summer of 2010, another door opened when the opportunity came to have a presence in downtown Martin.
“We now have a store front display in Monograms & More located at 413 Lindell,” Ricketts said.
Ricketts said she chose a home studio for flexibility with her family. Having a presence in downtown Martin has been a tremendous help, she said.
Ricketts said she loves every minute of her job.
“Since opening my studio, I have had the privilege of photographing many weddings, portraits of families and babies, high school seniors, local sports leagues, commercial photography and even rodeos,” she said. “I am passionate about creating portraits that you and your family will cherish for generations.”
Working as a photographer has exposed Ricketts to many people and situations she might otherwise have never met or experienced.
“You never know who will call you next to take their portrait or to shoot their event,” she said. “Several years ago some friends asked if I had ever shot a rodeo. I hadn’t but I told them I could learn. From that experience, I now photograph the UTM and Murray rodeos each year – and I love it! In a couple weeks, I will be the official photographer for an event featuring Mike Huckabee. So you never know who you will get the privilege to meet next.”
