A course on the basics of sock knitting will be offered from 6-8 p.m. Tuesdays starting this week through May 7 on the main campus of the University of Tennessee at Martin.
Sharyn Studstill will teach the course.
Participants will be taught how to knit socks from the cuff down and a pair of adult-sized socks will be knitted as a project.
At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to comfortably navigate most sock patterns and be proficient in knitting in the round with double-pointed needles or with the magic loop method.
Students enrolling in the course should be proficient in casting on, knit and purl. Some knowledge of increases and decreases is desirable but not necessary. Students will need to bring 100 grams of fingering weight sock yarn (solid or self-striping) and knitting needles U.S. 2.5 mm (either double-pointed needles or a 40-inch circular needle, depending on the student’s preference).
The registration fee to attend the course is $65 per person.
The course is sponsored by the UT Martin Office of Extended Campus and Online Studies.
To register, contact ECOS at (731) 881-7082 or register online at http://www.utm.edu/departments/ecce/nondegree/home.php.
