The University of Tennessee at Martin Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi will initiate its newest members during a ceremony at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Watkins Auditorium of the Boling University Center on campus.
The ceremony will include junior and senior students, as well as graduate students and faculty members. The new 2013-14 chapter officers will also be recognized.
The ceremony will be followed by a banquet at 6:30 p.m. in the Duncan Ballroom, also in the Boling University Center.
Tickets are $18 and are available at the University Information Desk on the second floor of the university center.
The 2013 speaker will be Dr. Robert M. Smith, dean of the former School of Arts and Sciences at UT Martin and retired president of Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania.
Smith is also credited with a major role in founding UT Martin’s WestStar Leadership Program and served as the program’s executive director before leaving UT Martin.
The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi was founded more than 100 years ago and is America’s oldest all-discipline college honor society. It awards more than $700,000 each year to outstanding members for further academic study.
Both events are open to the public.
