Man charged with impersonating deputy US marshal

MEMPHIS (AP) — A former employee of two Weakley County law enforcement agencies has been charged with pretending to be a deputy U.S. marshal.
The U.S. Marshals Service says Averick Nickson was arrested Monday at his home in Memphis.
Marshals spokesman Seth Bruce said Nickson identified himself to law enforcement officers as a Marshals Service employee at least twice. In one instance, Nickson was allegedly trying to avoid a speeding ticket.
Bruce said officials found police equipment at Nickson’s home, including guns, tactical vests, badges and identification cards, and radios.
Nickson’s car was also equipped with emergency lights. The indictment says he used them to pull over and detain someone.
Nickson is a former employee of the Dresden Police Department and the Weakley County Sheriff’s Office. He has been assigned a federal public defender.
