EARNS FFA AWARD — Clayton Mitchell of the Westview FFA Chapter recently won the FFA State Proficiency Award in agricultural mechanics, repair and maintenance at the 85th annual Tennessee FFA Convention in Gatlinburg. This award is the highest possible award at the state level in agricultural mechanics. Mitchell will compete this fall at the National FFA Convention in Louisville, Ky., against FFA members from across the nation. The Agricultural Proficiency Awards honor FFA members who, through their supervised agricultural experience programs, have developed specialized skills that they can apply toward their future careers. Students can compete for awards in 49 areas covering everything from agricultural communications to wildlife management. Each award area has two categories: placement and entrepreneurship. Placement proficiency awards are given to those whose SAEs are related to employment, apprenticeships or internships at an agribusiness or agriculture-related organization. Entrepreneurship proficiency awards are given to those whose SAEs are related to ownership of an agribusiness or agriculture-related organization. Proficiency awards are given out at the local, state and national levels. Mitchell is the son of John and Cindy Mitchell of Martin. He is a senior at Westview High School.
