A Union City man was charged Thursday afternoon in connection with alleged break-ins at the old Brown Shoe Co. building on East Gibbs Street in Union City.
Michael Joseph Embrey, 21, of 1121 South Fourth St. was arrested at 4:27 p.m. and charged with three counts of burglary and one count of theft under $500, according to a Union City Police Department report.
Police had responded about 4:10 p.m. Thursday to a report of someone breaking into the building and Embrey was stopped by a police a few minutes later as he walked west toward First Street. He told police he had been in the building, according to the report, which indicated he had in his duffle bag some copper wire that he found in the building.
Police reported Embrey spoke with officers and told them he had been in the building two other times besides Thursday and was planning on making a room in the building to live in. The building owner, Stephen S. Russell of Union City, identified Embrey as the person he saw coming out of his building and indicated the copper wire was some he recognized from the building.
At the Obion County Law Enforcement Complex, Embrey told police he had also gone into the building March 26 and Wednesday, according to the report.
Russell also told police he had a battery taken out of a boat inside the building Wednesday.
