Dresden rolls along past Lady Yellowjackets

Dresden softball is rolling along once again after going through a few setbacks a week earlier.
The Lady Lions are on a three-game winning streak after sweeping a doubleheader against county rival Greenfield in a non-district matchup.
Westview’s senior starting pitcher got off to a shaky start in the first inning before settling down and leading the Lady Chargers to a 4-0 win over Scotts Hill on Thursday.

The Lady Lions’ Abigail Lockhart stymied the Lady Yellowjackets in the first game of a twin-bill doubleheader on Wednesday.
Lockhart pitched a one-hitter and struck out an even dozen batters in picking up her eighth win of the season.
Lockhart is averaging 1.3 strikeouts per inning with 12 strikeout performance.
Melissa Williams took the loss for Greenfield by giving up six runs on seven hits through four innings. She walked two and struck out two.
Allie Randolph went 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs.
She drove in Kayla Hayes in the first inning with a single and then led off the bottom of the third with the triple and scored on Taylor McAlpin’s single to centerfield.
Lockhart helped herself at the plate with a run-scoring triple in the bottom of the third inning. Haley Hart also drove in a run in the third with a double to leftfield.
Williams scored the Lady Yellowjackets’ only run in the top of the fourth after Hayes made a fielding error at third on a stolen base attempt by Williams.
The Lady Lions erupted for 13 runs in the third inning of the second game behind a two-run triple by Samantha Seat.
Seat laced a drive down the leftfield line that scored Randolph and McAlpin.
Seat had two hits in the inning and scored twice as Lockhart had a pair of hits and one RBI in the inning. McAlpin reached base twice in the third inning on two errors and scored both times.
Lockhart had seven RBIs in the game including an opposite field grand slam in the second inning.
Randolph drove in three runs with a double and Hart had a pair of run-scoring singles.
Williams scored first for Greenfield in the bottom of the first on a groundout to take a 1-0 lead.
Williams scored the Lady ’Jackets’ only other run in the bottom of the third on a base hit by Tannah Humfress.
She also took the loss for the Lady ’Jackets.
Seat picked up the win for her fourth one of the season. She is now 4-1.

The Lady Chargers’ Meagan Prince got into some early trouble in the first inning against Scotts Hill, but then the Westview ace got down to business.
Prince got out of a bases loaded jam in the first inning with a heads-up play at the plate and then struck out six batters in a row and eight of nine in the second, third and fourth innings as she went on to record 19 strikeouts in the game.
She also struck out eight of the final nine batters she faced.
Prince went 3-for-4 at the plate while Kayla Bryant and Kayla Guthrie both went 2-for-4.
Hailey Coleman went 1-2 for the Lady Chargers.
Westview scored twice in the bottom of the first on a pair of run-producing doubles by Prince and Alex Crosser.
Alex Hughey drove in a pair of runs with a double in the bottom of the fourth and Guthrie doubled home Crosser and Joy Hazlewood in the fifth inning.
Prince also had a run-scoring single in the fifth.
