TITANIC TURNIP — Cliff Davis of Woodland Mills has been tending his backyard garden for some 30 years, raising such produce as asparagus, broccoli, cabbage, all kinds of lettuce, corn, tomatoes, green beans, cantaloupes, melons and turnips. Under the category of turnips, Davis recently harvested this particularly large turnip, which he estimated weighs more than 10 pounds. “When I saw that thing, I thought, that’s not a turnip, is it?” Davis said about this giant specimen he pulled out of the ground. “It’s a hunker,” he said as he showed off the giant turnip for The Messenger. “I love gardening and anything that grows out of the ground and is edible is good for you,” Davis said.
