Two men are facing multiple felony charges after a recent traffic stop in Weakley County.
Anthony Roger Brown, 28, of Dyer and Eddie Jerome Brooks, 27, of Memphis are each charged with theft over $10,000 – Class C felonies – and possession of schedule IV narcotics – Class D felonies.
Trooper Charles Forsythe of the Tennessee Highway Patrol stopped the vehicle the men were travelling in for speeding at 70 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone on Highway 54.
The vehicle, a white 2012 Ford Focus, had been reported stolen from Enterprise Rentals in Memphis.
Brown, the driver of the vehicle, produced a rental agreement stating his aunt had rented the car.
Brooks, who was riding in the front passenger’s seat, told the trooper a friend from Memphis had let them borrow the car, but couldn’t remember the friend’s name, according to Forsythe’s written narrative of the incident.
The vehicle was searched and a bottle containing nine Alprozolam pills was allegedly recovered. Both men denied ownership of the pills, according to the report.
A female passenger riding in a back seat of the car was initially detained but released.
