UT AgResearch center to host Tobacco, Beef and More Field Day

SPRINGFIELD — The annual Tobacco, Beef and More Field Day returns to the University of Tennessee Highland Rim AgResearch and Education Center on Thursday.
This free event will feature informative sessions on tobacco, beef cattle and forage production delivered by university and industry experts.
Registration begins at 7 a.m. At 8:15, vans and wagons will begin transporting visitors to their selected field tours located throughout the research farm. While farmers wait for the tours to begin, they can peruse an educational and industry trade show.
The tours are as follows:
Tours A & B – Tobacco
• Variety Development and the Effects of Harvest Management
• Sucker Control Strategies with Reduced MH Residues
• Does Crop Rotation Impact Black Shank?
• Ridomil Application Methods and Effective Black Shank Control
Tours C & D – Beef and Forages
• Beef Production 101: Open Cows & Dud Bulls
• Specific Mineral Concerns for Optimum Reproduction
• Herd Health Strategies for Beef Cattle
• Warm Season Grass Strategies for Cattle
Tour E – Pasture Weed Control
• Pasture Weed Control Strategies
• New Developments for Pasture Weed Control
Pesticide re-certification points are available in Categories 1, 10 and 12. CCA credits are also available.
The tours will conclude at approximately 12:30 p.m. when visitors will be treated to a lunch of steak sandwich, chips and cold drinks.
