The Messenger 02.17.12 By KEVIN BOWDEN Staff Reporter After March 1, the Doctors’ Clinic of Union City will have a new owner — the Baptist Medical Group. The new name for the local clinic will be Baptist Medical Group-The Doctors’ Clinic. A formal ceremony was scheduled for this afternoon finalizing the acquisition of the local clinic by Baptist Memorial Medical Group. The Doctors’ Clinic of Union City is located at 1020 East Reelfoot Ave., near the hospital and in the heart of Union City’s medical corridor. Hospital chief executive officer and administrator Brad Parsons was among a group of key Baptist Medical Group officials scheduled to be a part of today’s ceremony. Other hospital officials scheduled to take part in this afternoon’s program were Jim Boswell, Baptist Memorial Health Care Corporation vice president of physician services and CEO of Baptist Memorial Medical Group; Robert Vest, director of physician development and acquisition for Baptist Memorial Medical Group; Scott Davis, chief financial officer for Baptist Memorial Medical Group; and BMHCC attorney Luke Hill. The medical staff at the clinic includes Dr. Sam Bradberry, Dr. John Hale, Dr. Kirk Stone, Dr. Bruce Brown, Dr. John Clendenin and Dr. Selena Dozier. In a news release issued today, Baptist Medical Group announced the clinic will remain at its current location and the medical staff will remain with the clinic. “The transition, which is effective March 1, should not result in any significant changes in how patients receive their care,” a BMG news release stated in part. “The Doctors’ Clinic of Union City is pleased to announce our upcoming partnership with Baptist Medical Group,” Hale said. “We are excited about this opportunity to continue to provide the same quality of care for our patients with the benefit of Baptist, the leader in health care in our area.” Hale went on to announce the addition of Dr. Dozier to the medical staff, noting she would be joining the staff in March “with the help of this partnership.” “We at the Doctors’ Clinic are happy to join Baptist Medical Group in a partnership we believe will be beneficial to both parties as well as our community and surrounding area,” Bradberry said. “Our ultimate goal is to improve quality and outcomes through better coordination of care and alignment with our physicians,” Boswell said. “The team at The Doctors’ Clinic has a great reputation in the community and this partnership will give us the opportunity to work more closely and benefit from each other’s expertise.” BMG is one of the area’s largest not-for-profit multi-specialty physician group practices with more than 300 physicians representing 31 specialties in West Tennessee, east Arkansas and north Mississippi. Since 2009, BMG has acquired a number of primary care medical practices and has ongoing plans to expand to other groups and specialties. Most recently, the group has acquired Stern Cardiovascular, Memphis Lung Physicians, Boston Baskin Cancer Group, Family Cancer Center, Integrity Oncology, Forest Hill Family Practice, Humphreys Family Practice Clinic, Memphis Internal Medicine, The Light Clinic and Finn and Associates.
