| Reelfoot Rural Ministries (RRM) is in urgent need of food donations or financial donations to purchase food, according to Executive Director Rev. Michael Blake. Based in Obion, RRM is a ministry of the Memphis Conference of The United Methodist Church that provides various forms of assistance to children, the elderly and low-income families in rural Northwest Tennessee and Southwest Kentucky. The Memphis Conference includes 427 United Methodist Churches in West Tennessee and Western Kentucky. These churches are now responding to RRM’s needs. “Each year the need to restock the RRM Food Bank becomes urgent about mid-summer,” reported Blake this week. Due to economic changes in the area, he said clients are coming to RRM for food “in unprecedented numbers.” Blake said that even though RRM’s food box distribution varies each month, a steady increase in need for food continues to develop. “Presently, our food bank supply is critical,” he said. Food donations may be taken to RRM at 6923 Minnick-Elbridge Road in Obion, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Blake asks any individual, church or group planning a delivery to please call ahead (538-9970) to schedule their arrival. Food items needed, according to Blake, are canned meats, canned potatoes, canned fruit, cereals, corn meal (2 or 5 lb.), corn muffin mix, crackers, dried beans (1 lb. bags), flour (2 or 5 lb.), macaroni/cheese, mixed vegetables, noodles (all kinds), oatmeal (family size), oatmeal (instant), oatmeal (small packets), one-skillet meals, peanut butter, ready-to-eat Items, rice (1 lb. bags), sugar, tea, vegetable oil. “Financial donations to purchase food also are needed,” said Blake. for information about how to donate online, or mail donations to Reelfoot Rural Ministries, 6923 Minnick-Elbridge Road, Obion, TN 38240.
