COUNTRY MUSIC SENSATION – John Michael Montgomery will take the downtown stage on Saturday, Sept. 11 during the annual Soybean Festival in Martin. Montgomery is most noted for ‘Letters from Home.’

John Michael Montgomery and 38 Special will headline the 17th Annual Tennessee Soybean Festival, Sept. 4-12, in Martin.
A mix of free musical entertainment, along with a carnival, disc golf tournament, pageants, talent contest, parade, 17th annual barbecue cook-off and 14th annual car and bicycle show, also highlight this year’s event.
“The foundational premise of our festival is to bring the community together in ways that are fun, engaging and exciting,” said David Belote, festival chair.
“Truly, the Soybean Festival Committee and our many sponsors will accomplish this with the 17th Annual Tennessee Soybean Festival. At the same time, we want to honor and promote agriculture in West Tennessee … we want to celebrate everything that is good about living in West Tennessee.” 
“The Tennessee Soybean Festival has grown to be one of the premier festivals in the state,” said Randy Brundige, Martin mayor.
“I am proud of what this community has done and the way it comes together during the event.”
The 2010 festival will include the finals of the Soybean Idol Competition after the parade at 6:30 p.m. as the Tuesday night feature; the sixth annual Faith and Community Night, with The Peacemakers and Selah as the Wednesday night entertainment; and Jason Michael Carroll and Kip Moore performing Thursday night.
On Friday, 38 Special, The Return Beatles Tribute Band and the Ryan Holladay Band are slated to perform. Montgomery is the Saturday night concert. All concerts are free.
Montgomery, of Danville, Ky., hit No. 1 with “I Swear” and “Sold” along with other top hits, “I Love the Way You Love Me” and “I Can Love You Like That.” 38 Special had No. 1 hits with “Caught Up In You” and “If I’d Been There” along with other hits, “Hold On Loosely” and “Back Where You Belong.”
Traditional festival events will include the Mayor’s Kickoff Luncheon, the Soybean Farmer’s Breakfast, Prayer Breakfast,” “Salute to Our Heroes” breakfast for the Martin Police and Fire departments and School Children’s Street Fair and lunch for the children.
Also included in the lineup are the “Singing Bee” live game show, “What’s It Worth” segment, golf tournament, 5K run, health fair, bicycle rodeo, and Punt, Pass and Kick competition.
Among other activities planned are the Crossroads Lunch/Celebration of Civic Organizations, bingo, an art exhibit and competition, Bikers for Books Poker Run, cancer crash car bash, book sale and literary reading, city-wide merchant sidewalk sale, musical performances by 27 B Stroke 6, Trees Leave, Jamie Worrell, King Beez and High Variety, along with Rock in the Park, a sidewalk chalk art contest, pet show, quilt show, youth soccer matches, genealogy workshop, bake sale, several other breakfasts and a Sunday brunch.
