Gene Butler Posted: Friday, August 6, 2010 12:36 pm The Messenger, August 6, 2010 Charles Eugene “Gene” Butler, 83, of Covington, father of Jean Ann (Butler) White and Beverly (Butler) Rice, both of Union City, died Aug. 5, 2010, at his home. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Covington’s First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tim Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow in R.H. Munford Cemetery in Covington. Friends may call this evening from 5-8 at Maley-Yarbrough Funeral Home at 1701 Highway 51 South in Covington. The family requests that memorials be made to Covington First United Methodist Church, 145 West Church Ave., Covington, TN 38019; or Myeloma Institute of Research and Therapy, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, 4301 West Markham St., Slot 816, Little Rock, AR 72205-9985. He was born July 21, 1927, in Burlison, son of the late Ernest B. and Eula (Evans) Butler. He was married to the former Dorothy E. “Dot” Eubank, who survives, and was the retired owner of the former Berg and Schafer Men’s and Women’s Clothing in Ripley and the former Video Visions in Covington. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and was a member of Covington First United Methodist Church and the Men’s Bible Class, where he had served as secretary and treasurer, and the church’s Prayer Breakfast. He was a member of Ripley Rotary Club, where he had been honored as a Paul Harris Fellow and was past president. He was also past president of Covington Jaycees. He was also a member of Dunham Masonic Lodge No. 150, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Raleigh Loyal Order of Moose and the Rite Aid Coffee Group. He was also past director of Rolling Hills Country Club in Ripley. Survivors also include his sister, Rachel B. Davis of West Palm Beach, Fla.; two sons-in-law, Bart White and Hal Rice, both of Union City; three granddaughters, Kara (Dunavant) Southerland, Ashley White and Anna White; his step-granddaughter, Avery Cearley; and two great-grandchildren, Kaigan Davis and Kyler Southerland. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Lyles; and three brothers, Floyd Butler, Kermit Butler and Billy Butler. |
