James Turnbow, 80, of Union City, formerly of Hickman, Ky., died Jan. 31, 2010, at his home.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Strong Funeral Home in Hickman, with the Rev. Jason Sipes officiating. Burial will follow in Hickman City Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home 5-7 p.m. Wednesday.

Pallbearers will be John Kirk, Scott Parks, Cory Parks, Eric Turnbow, Christopher Turnbow and Derrick Turnbow. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Lane, Gerry Strohmeyer, Roger Gordon, Don Blincoe, Charles Choate, Ronald Strong, Vercil Bryant, Donald Coffey, James Coffey, Hal Coffey, Kendal Rice, George Bowlin, Harold Garrison, Greg Moore and Bonnie Poynor.

The family requests that memorials be made to Baptist Children’s Homes in care of West Baptist Church, 1003 Broadway St., Hickman, KY 42050; or Obion County Hometown Walk of Hope.

He was born Nov. 6, 1929, in Hickman, son of the late Martin and Lola (Scott) Turnbow. 

He had owned and operated the former Turnbow’s Grocery Store in Hickman for many years. He was a member of West Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy Turnbow; two sons, Tommy Turnbow of Paducah, Ky., and Chad Turnbow of Union City; his daughter, Vicki Parks of Winchester; two brothers, Bill Turnbow of Union City and Clentis Turnbow of Hickman; and eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
