The Rev. Bobby Eugene Roberts, 76, of Hickman, Ky., died 1:57 p.m. Jan. 5, 2010, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Strong Funeral Home in Hickman, with the Rev. Henry Callison officiating. Burial will follow in Hickman City Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Friday.

Pallbearers will be Earl Rogers, Joel Ferguson, Zack Ricketts, Jim Shaw, Matt Moss, Allen Craddock, Doc Roberts and John Flemming. 

Honorary pallbearers will be David Lattus, Michael Smith, Dan Cartwright, Terry Pickett, Don Hollingsworth, Joe Kemp Johnson and Coy Robinson.

He was born Jan. 20, 1933, in Martin, son of the late J.W. Roberts and the late Will Ella Robert Johnson. 

He was married to Patsy Roberts June 10, 1960. She survives. 

He had been pastor of Clinton (Ky.) First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for 41 years and was a 1950 graduate of Western High School. 

He was a veteran of the United States Armed Forces, serving in Japan and in the Korean War. He achieved the rank of sergeant and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal by the U.S. Air Force. 

He attended Johnson Bible College in Knoxville and, prior to his graduation as a minister, toured 40 states with a company performing the play “Everlasting Arms.”

He is also survived by his daughter, Kristen Smith of Woodland Mills; his brother, Joe Kemp Johnson of Hickman; two sisters, Barbara Ann Hollingsworth of Martin and Dolly Ricketts of Hickman; and two granddaughters, Mary Elizabeth Smith and Dorrie Blair Smith, both of Woodland Mills.

He was also preceded in death by this son, Shawn Chadwell Roberts.
