DUBLIN, Ohio — (Oct. 23, 2009) Dublin Arts Council (DAC) will host “Gifted: A group jewelry exhibition … and more” an exhibition of jewelry and metal vessels in the DAC main gallery, 7125 Riverside Dr., in Dublin, from Nov. 3 through Dec. 11. The exhibition opens with a reception for the artists at DAC on Tues., Nov. 3 from 6 to 8 p.m.

The exhibition features artwork from Cindy Cetlin, Professor of Fine Arts at Ohio Wesleyan University, Kristi Kloss, jewelry instructor at the Columbus Cultural Arts Center, Kelly Malec-Kosak, Chair, Dimensional Studies at Columbus College of Art and Design, and Michael B. Hays of Columbus who specializes in metalworking.

Cetlin’s jewelry reflects her teaching focus in metals and three-dimensional design. Presented in vibrant colors and rich earthen hues, Cetlin’s creations are truly wearable art.

Working primarily in silver, Hays hammers, domes, pierces, solders and fabricates contemporary solutions to the historical forms of holloware, dining utensils and other serving implements, with the occasional side excursion into jewelry.

Kloss’ current metalwork stems from a lifelong appreciation for nature, incorporating motifs of insects, seeds and pods. While Kloss’ works tend to be very sculptural in nature, they are fabricated so as to be used and enjoyed.

In a symbolic gesture to mothering, Malec-Kosak uses traditional fabrication and carving techniques to create a collection of pacifiers. Almost jewel-like in scale and form, these objects become colorful mouth ornaments that can foster a state of peace in an oddly comic fashion.

The opening reception for Gifted is graciously catered by the Refectory Restaurant & Bistro, DAC’s 2009 Visual Arts Series catering sponsor. The exhibition and the opening reception are free of charge and the public is invited.

Gifted will remain on view through Dec. 11. Exhibition hours are Tues., 10am-7pm; Wed./Thurs./Fri., 10am–5pm; and Sat., 11am-2pm.
