Ed Fritts Posted: Friday, September 11, 2009 2:30 pm The Messenger, September 11, 2009 Edward Brent “Ed” Fritts, 94, of Paducah, Ky., a former resident of Union City who had been the manager of WENK radio station, died 9:53 a.m. Sept. 9, 2009, at Parkview Rehabilitation Center in Paducah. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Paducah First Christian Church, with the Rev. Jae Gottman officiating. Pallbearers will be Edd Taylor, Tim Fritts, Bruce Shulman, Burke Shulman, Marion Turner, Evan Morris and Robert K. Morris. Friends may call at the church from 6-8 this evening. The family requests that memorials be made in his name to First Christian Church, 415 Audubon Drive, Paducah, KY 42002. He was the owner of WPAD-AM/FM and WDDJ stations in Paducah from 1967-84 and was later an owner and partner in WNBS in Murray, Ky. A lifetime member of Paducah First Christian Church, he was also a 42-year member of Paducah Lions Club. In 1957 he had been president of the Union City Kiwanis Club and had later been a member of Paducah Country Club and Rolling Hills Country Club. He enjoyed golf, traveling and tennis and researching not only family history for the “Fritts (Fritz) Family Heritage Book” but also for the Christian Church. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Alma Ruth (McLaughlin) Shulman Fritts; his son and daughter-in-law, Edward Owens and Martha Dale Fritts of McLean, Va.; two stepsons and another daughter-in-law, Bruce Shulman and Burke and Linda Shulman, all of Paducah; his stepdaughter and son-in-law, Sue Ann and Robert Kim Morris of Owensboro, Ky.; three grandchildren and their spouses, Kimberley and Marion Turner of Arlington, Va., Timothy and Tracy Fritts of Madison, Miss., and Jennifer and Jim Darcey of McLean; five step-grandchildren and their spouses, Jillian and Will Ashley of New York City, Stephanie and Ted Tatro of Nashville, Asher Shulman of Paducah, Katie and Dr. Craig Alexander of Lexington, Ky., and Evan Morris of Chicago; five great-grandchildren, Margaret Turner, Katherine Fritts, Will Fritts, Grace Darcey and Lily Darcey; four step-great-grandchildren; Anne Louise Tatro, William Tatro, Patrick Tatro and Catherine Tatro; his niece; his nephew; two great nephews; his great niece; and two great-great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. Earnest and Byrdia (McHargue) Fritts; his first wife, Ruth (Owens) Fritts; and his sister, Mary Frances Berzett. |
