Ken Pink has been promoted to president and chief operating officer of E.W. James & Sons Supermarkets, according to an announcement from Lee Ann James, chief executive officer of E.W. James & Sons Supermarkets.

He joined E.W. James in June 2004 as executive vice president and chief operating officer.

During this time, Pink has been “an invaluable asset to the growth and direction of the company,” according to Ms. James’ announcement. He is the first non-family member to be named as president of the family-owned company.

Pink has a unique blend of operational and executive leadership encompassing 20 years of experience in the grocery industry in wholesale, retail and software development. He was CIO of Harmon’s City Inc., an 11-store chain based in Salt Lake City. He also spent 12 years with Fleming Foods in a variety of positions.

Within the industry, he has served on a number of standards committees for the Food Marketing Institute, the National Grocers Association and is on the board of the Tennessee Grocers and Convenience Stores Association.

Pink has a bachelor’s degree in computer science and another in finance from the University of Utah and an MBA from Utah State University. He and his wife, Shanon, reside in Union City and he has three children.

“I am both honored and excited about this opportunity and I look forward to the future,” Pink said.

Ms. James, who had held the title of president, remains CEO of the company. Her father, David James, is chairman of the board for the supermarket chain, which operates stores in West Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas and Mississippi.
