Unique house goes on the auction block
One of Union City’s most unique estates is headed to the auction block. The absolute auction of the Gurien estate at 1707 East Reelfoot Ave. in Union City is scheduled for Jan. 10 starting at 9 a.m., according to auctioneer Marvin Alexander of Alexander Auctions and Real Estate Sales. Anyone interested in seeing the well-known Gurien estate up close will finally have an opportunity to do so during an open house Sunday from 1-5 p.m. The 21-acre estate was built by Jerry and Patsy Gurien in 1988. Jerry Gurien owned Gurien Finishing Co., which developed a process to stone-wash blue jeans and denims. “The Gurien Finishing Company has sold their industrial facility,” Alexander said. “The Guriens have retired and moved to a smaller home.” The real estate portion of the estate includes a 7,009-square-foot home on 21 acres with a man-made five-acre lake inside security-gated privacy walls. There is also a cabana pool house, octagon-shaped lake house and covered marina, as well as a separate shop building with office, living quarters and garage. A variety of personal property — including firearms, artwork, tractors, all-terrain vehicles, equipment, horse-drawn carriages, furniture and restaurant equipment — will also be auctioned. Alexander said the auction will be conducted on-site, with live auction bidding available through Proxibid. All bidding is open to the public and more information may be found at the auction company’s Web site at www.alexanderauctions.com. Published in The Messenger 1.1.09
