Ped and Jeanne Foster have accepted the position of children’s ministry leaders at Exchange Street Church of Christ. This ministry involves instructing children 2 years old through fifth grade. The goal of this ministry is to teach children Bible truths with a focus on serving others.
“We wish to create a close fellowship between the children that they can carry with them through junior high, high school and beyond,” say the Fosters. “Sunday morning and evening classes are offered, along with a Wednesday night meal and a puppet/skit program followed by weekly Wednesday night class. Once a month visits are made to the area nursing homes and there are also other service projects. Our firm belief is to serve our Lord. There is no better time to begin this than with our young. We invite everyone to come and see what the children’s ministry has to offer.”
Mr. and Mrs. Foster live in Union City and are employed by the Obion County School System. Foster, a former resident of Nashville, is the music teacher and band director at Black Oak Elementary School and Mrs. Foster, the former Jeanne Russell of Union City, teaches music and band at Lake Road School. They have two children: Garrett, who is 7 years old, and Emmalee, who is 4.
The Fosters are graduates of Austin Peay State University in Clarksville and both have degrees in music.
The church is also announcing the recent hiring of Allen and Shawna Pounds as part-time ministers for the junior and senior high age youth group.
The couple have been members of Exchange Street Church of Christ since late 2002.
They are employed as teachers in the Obion County School System and both attended and received undergraduate and graduate degrees in education from the University of Tennessee at Martin. They have two children: Tucker, who is 9, and Ally, age 4.
Before accepting this position, Pounds served as deacon, Bible class teacher, Vacation Bible School worker and song leader at Hohenwald Church of Christ, as well as at Exchange Street. Mrs. Pounds has been a frequent Sunday school teacher and VBS worker in both congregations for several years.
“The focus of the Exchange Street Church of Christ youth group is to build strong relationships with the youth as they develop a strong spiritual foundation. By building strong relationships and concentrating on Bible fundamentals, students will grow spiritually as they develop their walk with Christ. This strong foundation will enable our youth to go out into our community and be good examples as they bring others to Christ,” the Pounds say.
