Area childcare industry workers can benefit from a free training program offered by Dyersburg State Community College and the Tennessee Early Childhood Training Alliance.
The training is free to anyone employed in a state- or federally -licensed childcare facility and consists of 30 hours of education in a chosen specialization.
Participants may select from several areas of focus: infant/toddler (six weeks to three years), center based (three years to five years), school age (five years to 12 years), administrator or family child care.
TECTA is sponsored and funded by the Tennessee Department of Human Services and was designed to help childcare professionals gain the knowledge and skills to provide the highest quality care and education to Tennessee’s young children. TECTA’s training and orientation program also serves as a gateway for participants wishing to pursue certification and degree programs offered by DSCC and other Tennessee Board of Regents institutions.
For 14 years, DSCC has been host to TECTA, which is the first statewide systematic early childhood training and professional system in the nation.
The TECTA program is overseen by a local board of advisors whose purpose is to serve as a resource to ensure input from the early childhood community and the community at- large and provide information to guide certain aspects of TECTA program functions. The advisory committee includes representatives from Department of Human Services (DHS) licensing staff, the Association for the Education of Young Children and the Association for Education International representatives, college and university liaisons, Child Care Resource and Referral, Head Start representatives and other child advocacy groups.
For information about the TECTA program or training dates and locations, contact Kelly Tivey, TECTA site coordinator at the DSCC Gibson County Center, at (731) 855-9198 or visit the Web sites at www.DSCC.edu-community resources or www.tecta.info.
