A second generation of the Dunn family has taken over ownership of Dunn’s Auto Body Inc. in Union City, pledging to continue a 45-year tradition of high-quality work and customer satisfaction.
The complete auto body repair, frame and glass business — located at 2103 West Main St. — is now owned by Raymond Wayne Dunn, Roger Dunn and Daniel Dunn.
Dunn’s has been in business since 1963.
It all started with Ray Dunn and Dan Dunn, who were born and raised in Dresden. After Ray returned from World War II, he attended an auto body school on a G.I. Bill and started a body shop in Lansing, Mich. Later, Dan and his family moved there to work.
Ray returned to Obion County to start his own body shop, Ray Dunn’s Body Shop, in 1960. Dan returned to Obion County and worked under Ray for about two years. A short while later, in 1964, Ray and Dan became partners, producing quality auto repair throughout the area.
Their first establishment, Ray and Dan Dunn’s Body Shop, was located on Main Street in Union City. But they quickly outgrew that building and then rented a shop on Perkins Street.
In 1973, they were able to build a shop at the present location, doing business as Dunn’s Body Shop Inc.
In 1989, Ray retired and his nephew, Daniel Dunn, bought into the business. Dan and Daniel, father and son, were then partners for several years.
This past September, Dan decided to retire and the shop was then purchased by Roger Dunn, a son, and Raymond Wayne Dunn, a nephew.
The second generation owners — Roger, Daniel and Raymond Wayne Dunn — have pledged to continue their fathers’ 45-year tradition of high quality work and customer satisfaction.
In addition to the three Dunns who own the shop, the staff includes Traci Dunn, Kris Bradberry, Elizabeth Moore and Frank Rhodes.
Dunn’s offers personal service by the owners; complete auto body repair and refinishing of all vehicles; frame and uni-body repair; automotive glass and windshield replacement; guaranteed paint match with DuPont Vindicator, which uses a vehicle’s VIN (vehicle identification number) to match the paint to the factory build date; factory duplicating paint-baking system; auto detailing, including wash, wax, interior, etc., by appointment; and free pickup and delivery of vehicles.
All insurance claims are accepted and free computerized estimates are available. Plus, there is a guarantee on all of Dunn’s repairs for as long as that customer owns the vehicle.
The shop is also an authorized Leer topper and Tonneau cover dealer.
Dunn’s is open Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon.
