Gail Latimer

Mrs. Gail McDonald Latimer, 86, a resident of Union City, died Sept. 5, 2026, at her residence.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, 2026, at White-Ranson Funeral Home. Rev. Terry English will be officiating.
The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Latimer was born on Feb. 20, 1940, in Knoxville, TN, to the late William Lea McDonald Jr. and Sally (Watkins) McDonald. She was a Homemaker.
Survivors include three sons, William Bonner “Bonn” Latimer and wife, Nancy, of Brentwood, Michael Lea Latimer of Los Angeles, CA, and Douglas Neal Latimer and wife, Nancy, of Edmunds, WA; four grandchildren, Courtney Brett of Nashville, Hall Latimer and wife, Kalie, of Knoxville, Kyle Latimer and wife, Kelsey, of Lexington, KY, and Justin Latimer of Pasadena, CA; six great-grandchildren; two nieces, Debbie Adkins of Brentwood and Cindy Kroeger and husband, Steve, of Brentwood.
She attended the University of Tennessee of Knoxville and of Martin. Mrs. Latimer was a longtime member of Union City First Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, Teenagers Team member and served on numerous boards. She was a founding member of Masquerade Theatre, where she served as a Board of Director, treasurer, secretary, Theatre Restoration Committee and Dress Circle; Obion County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, where she served as Vice President of Education, Education Edge Co-Chairman; Junior Auxiliary of Obion County, where she served as Provisional Trainer, Corresponding Secretary and Northwest Safeline Liason; and the Obion County Crisis Line steering committee, where she was a counselor, volunteer, advocate divorce care facilitator of NW Tennessee and SW Kentucky, and coordinator of volunteers and administrators.
Mrs. Latimer was a Lifetime member of NW Tennessee Alpha Delta Pi Sorority Alumni Association, Weststar, sustaining member of Delphian Review Club, University of Tennessee Development Council, University of Tennessee National Alumni Association Women’s Council, UT Martin Development Committee Chair, Founding member of UT Alliance of Women Philanthropist Steering Committee, Obion County UT Alumni Executive Board, Nathan Doughtery Society, Pride of Obion County in 2000, Volunteer of the Year National Association of Junior Axillary, UT Martin Chancellor’s Award for University service, Patrons of the Arts Award, Obion County Arts Council and was the Valedictorian of Knoxville Bearden High School.
Mrs. Latimer had a very giving heart. She supported many programs financially without recognition. Chimes for Charity, Hometown Walk of Hope and United Way benefitted from her generosity. She made major contributions to the Union City Rotary Club scholarship program — putting several students through four years of college at UT Martin. Mrs. Latimer provided the seed money for the establishment of the local Boys & Girls Club and supplied the initial monies for the Obion County Habitat for Humanity. She was honored with the Habitat for Humanity Cornerstone Award. When the state of Tennessee began offering 50/50 grants for local shelters thru the Northwest Safeline program, she provided the matching funds for the Obion County commitment. She has provided financial support for local high school and middle school students to benefit from the WestStar Leadership program. Also, Mrs. Latimer gave very generously to Discovery Park of America and Masquerade Theatre. She was someone that people came to when they needed financial help for necessary charities and programs around town.
She enjoyed cheering for Tennessee Vols and Lady Vols sports teams, and she collected butterflies because they represent a new life. Mrs. Latimer loved watching sunsets for they filled her with the presence of God. She has been a member of Union City Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Pleasant Valley Methodist Church and First Methodist Church and sang in all three choirs. She was grateful to be able to follow their services on Facebook in recent years.
She was also preceded in death by her niece, Caryline Adkins.
