A Time to Be Born and Educated: Mack Edward Moore was born May 9, 1959, and reared in a Christian home under the loving guidance of his mother, Mrs. Walterine Coleman Moore, and his stepfather, the Rev. Arnold D. Moore, and the inspiring influence of his maternal grandparents, the Rev. Edward Coleman and Mrs. Lucille Martin Coleman. He inherited his educational pursuits from his parents and grandparents.
His academic journey began at St. Francis Catholic School in Yazoo City, Miss., and he later enrolled in the Yazoo City Public School System, where he was a 1977 graduate of Yazoo City High School. He chose his mother’s alma mater and matriculated at Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tenn., where he was initiated in the Rho Psi Undergraduate Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. in the fall of 1978.
He transferred to Lane College in Jackson, Tenn., and received his undergraduate degree having participated in the Lane College Concert Choir and as a member of the Kappa Sigma Undergraduate Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. He later obtained graduate school level certification in the field of science.
A Time to Be Christian: Mack gave his life to the Lord at an early age at Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Yazoo City, Miss.
A Time to Be Professional: Mack, in his professional career as an educator in the Union City Schools, taught Physical Education, Health and Science at Union City High School spanning a 35-year period. He utilized these subject area attributes not only in the classroom but also in his coaching techniques.
A Time to Be Coach: Mack’s mantra as a coach reflects that he was more concerned about building men and women than just winning games.
A Time to Be Loved and Remembered: Mack leaves to cherish his memories, stories and lessons: his beloved son, Mack Edward Moore Jr. of Jackson, Tenn; his devoted daughter, Anna Moore Carter (Brandon) of Atlanta, Ga.; his supportive former wife and children’s mother, Iva Barnes Moore of Union City, Tenn.; his adorable granddaughter, Ella Iva Louise Carter of Atlanta, Ga.; his loyal sister, Wanda Moore Ekenna of Houston, Texas; an admired nephew, Colby (Shawniqua) Collins of Houston, Texas; four aunts, Elizabeth Milliner of Covington, Ohio, Margaret Kimmons of Rock Island, Ill., Lucille (Reginald) Spears of Jackson, Miss., and Eddie Jean (Willie) Kerney of Chillicothe, Ohio; and a host of cousins, family members, fraternity brothers, classmates, former athletes, colleagues and friends.
Homegoing services will be Saturday, Sept. 12, at noon at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Yazoo City, Miss.
Visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 11, from 2-6 p.m. at Scott Funeral Home in Yazoo City and Saturday, Sept. 12, from 11 a.m. until service time.
