Jerry Thomas
Jerry H. Thomas, a beloved husband, father, friend and a man known for his kindness and gentle spirit, passed away Sunday, Aug. 30, 2026, at The Arbors in Union City.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, 2026, at Woodland Mills Baptist Church, with Bro. Rick Burton officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday beginning at 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
A private burial will be held before the services.
He was born Feb. 5, 1930, in the McConnell community of Obion County to the late Chester and Thelma Brown Thomas. Jerry was a devoted husband to Mrs. June Burden Thomas for 70 years, whom he married on Oct. 2, 1955. She survives.
Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 21 years. During his distinguished military career, he served as a senior command pilot of a TAC squadron. His years in the Air Force reflected the qualities that would define his life-dedication, responsibility, courage and a willingness to serve others.
Following his retirement from the Air Force, Jerry surrendered his life to Christ which changed the direction of his life and his families life. Jerry was a faithful member of Woodland Mills First Baptist Church and was also a member of the Gideons, as well as starting the Monday Night Fellowship, where he shared his faith and helped make God’s Word available to others. For work, he managed Everett-Stewart Airport in Union City and was a corporate pilot.
Those who knew Jerry will remember him not only for his service and accomplishments, but most of all for the kind and gentle man he was. He had a warmth about him that made people feel welcome, and his quiet strength, generosity, humor and genuine concern for others left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In addition to his wife, June, Jerry is survived by his two sons, John Thomas and his wife, Shari, of Stratford, Conn., and Jeff Thomas and his wife, Valeria, of Jackson; his daughter, Jill Thomas Pair and her husband, Bob, of Maryville; eight grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents, Chester and Thelma Thomas, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Frank Thomas; and one sister, Susan Raye Thomas.
Jerry lived a long and meaningful life devoted to his family, his faith, his country and his community. He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, June, and by his family, friends, church family and all who were blessed to know him.
His life was one of faithful service, and his memory will remain a blessing to those he leaves behind.
