Mr. McCullough was born in the Crystal Community on Oct. 25, 1939, to the late John E. McCullough and the late Delois Thorpe McCullough. He shared 63 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Dee Dee Pryor McCullough, who survives.
He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a jet engine mechanic for four years. Following his military service, he returned to Troy, where he made his home for the remainder of his life. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and generously donated his time and expertise to construct the original baseball fields for Troy Little League and Obion County Central High School during their early years. He later enjoyed a long 32 year career with Goodyear Tire & Rubber before retiring.
Mr. McCullough had a lifelong love of the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing and duck hunting on Reelfoot Lake with his father, son and friends. An avid golfer, he was a faithful member of Wynridge Golf Course, where he achieved the rare accomplishment of recording four hole-in-ones. He and his wife were devoted members of Troy First Baptist Church. In his later years, his greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and visiting with the many coffee club friends he met each day at the local gas station.
In addition to his wife, Dee Dee, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John and Jayne McCullough of North Augusta, S.C.; his two daughters and sons-in-law, Stacey and Michael Gaines of Halls and Kristen and Ron Reasons of Cornersville; his seven grandchildren, Gage McCullough, Mallory (Corey) Worlds, Tommy (Emily) Wright, James Trevor “J.T.” (Jessie) Wright, Austin Gaines, Chasity (Brandon) Alexander and Carter (Clay) Stokes; nine great-grandchildren; his sister, Mary Ann Lewis; and his niece, Tanya Holt.
