BATTER UP — Union City Assistant Police Chief Josh Lovell pointed a bat toward the outfield as he stepped up to the plate for his turn at bat during Saturday night’s third annual Battle of the Badges softball tournament to benefit the Union City Police Department’s Shop With a Cop program. The event, which pitted the UCPD against the Obion County Sheriff’s Office, raised just over $3,000 to help local children in need via a positive shopping experience with law enforcement officers at Christmas. The UCPD came out on top, winning 7-6 in a thriller that came down to a homerun derby to break a 6-6 tie when the ninth inning ended at Elam Stadium.
