Paul Martin was born in Bowling Green, Ky., on Jan. 15, 2009, to Kenny Tohn and Katie Thorpe Tohn. He was a Junior at Union City High School where he competed on the Golf and Tennis teams. He was a member of First Methodist Church in Union City where he was very active in the Youth Group. Paul Martin also was a member of Fellowship of the Christian Athletes, Younglife, and was a member of the UCHS Pep Club. He was a SCOPE delegate, member of the Sparks Club, Beta Club and the 21+ ACT club.
Paul Martin approached life with the intentionality of someone who already understood how precious time truly is. He wore the role of big brother like a badge of honor. He was fiercely protective of his mother’s heart and treasured the wisdom and lessons passed down from his father.
At such a young age, in a world where so many interactions can feel routine and superficial, PM had a rare gift for reminding people of the sincerity and importance of genuine human connection. He treated friendships and relationships as priceless gifts, loving people with purpose and intention in a way usually found only in those who have lived long and full lives.
Paul Martin was an example to everyone around him — to be kind to others, to see people the way Jesus calls us to see them, and to live intentionally, never taking tomorrow for granted.
In addition to his parents, Kenny and Katie Tohn, Paul Martin is survived by his brother and sister, William and McClain Tohn; his grandparents, Paula and Randy Chapman and Shawn Cunningham; his great-grandmother, Marge Adair; his aunts and uncles, Ali and Brian Fowler, Allison and Andrew Fowler, Kara and Chris Peck and Karen and Mikie Tohn; cousins, Evie Fowler, Jack Fowler, Elle Fowler, George Fowler, Mary Drew Fowler, Charles Fowler, Caroline Peck, Miles Peck, Tyler Tohn, David Tohn and Mason Quillen; and several great-aunts and uncles and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, David Thorpe.
An account will be opened in the coming days with Security Bank for a memorial scholarship in memory of Paul Martin Tohn. Donations for the scholarship may be made at the bank.
The family requests memorials be made to Younglife of Northwest Tennessee at nwtnyounglife.org/give or P.O. Box 155, Union City, TN, 38281, or to the First Methodist Church Youth Group in Union City.
