SAFETY FIRST — Union City Fire Chief Karl Ullrich held a safety helmet during Tuesday night’s Union City city council meeting which had been worn by a Union City firefighter last Thursday when his unit responded as automatic aid to a rural blaze on East Pierce Station Road near South Fulton. In the course of putting out the fire, it is believed a medical oxygen bottle caused an explosion, which ripped through the side of the mobile home. Two firefighters and the incident commander were knock to the ground. A metal screw was lodged in one of the helmets during the explosion.
