FOR THE HOMELESS

FOR THE HOMELESS — Michelle Wheat (left) of Union City worked to crochet a sleeping mat for the homeless as part of the Bag Ladies of Second Baptist Church in Union City, while Jeannie Wilson of Martin looped plastic strips together to make the “plarn” used to crochet the mats. Ms. Wheat said she was among the first group to work on making the mats 10 years ago, stopped for a while, but returned about three years ago, working with the program for a total of six years. She said she likes to crochet a cross into the mat because she wants the recipient to think about Jesus before they go to bed. Ms. Wilson said it is “a great opportunity to minister to others” and a blessing to be there each Thursday with the ladies, knowing they are helping someone in need.
