Phyllis Simmons
Phyllis Jean Choate Simmons, age 80, a lifetime resident of Hickman, Ky., passed away Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Clinton Place in Clinton, Ky.
Phyllis was born in Hickman on Aug. 7, 1944, to the late Phillip and Bethel Edwards Choate. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hickman and graduated from the University of Tennessee at Martin with a degree in Home Economics. She retired from her many years of service with the University of Kentucky Cooperative Agency as the Home Economics Extension Agent for Hickman County, Ky. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was an avid genealogist and a long-time serving member of the Hickman Public Library Board.
She is survived by her two sons, Charles Edward “Chip” Simmons Jr. (Stephanie) of Lexington, Ky., and Daniel Choate Simmons of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; her twin granddaughters, Molly and Maggie Simmons, both of Lexington, Ky.; one brother, Al Choate (Betsy) of Madisonville, Ky.; and one sister-in-law, Karen of Muskegon, Mich.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Charles “Charlie” Edward Simmons, who passed away in 1984; and one brother, Phil Choate.
A Funeral Mass will be held for Phyllis Simmons at noon on Friday, May 23, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hickman. Burial will follow in Hickman City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church beginning at 10 a.m. Friday.
