Charlotte Smith

Charlotte Meador Smith, 93, of Hornbeak died peacefully at her home April 4, 2025, surrounded by her family. As a Christian, she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother as well as a true friend to many. She not only served her family faithfully for many years, but chose to become an Obion County School System bus driver for the children of the Hornbeak area after her sons graduated so that she could continue to encourage and help young people. “Miss Charlotte” as she was affectionately known did so for 25 years before officially retiring. Before that she always found ways to be involved in the lives of young people through the friends of her sons and at Hornbeak Elementary School and Hornbeak Church of Christ. Her care and concern was not limited to young people as she was always there with good home cooked meals and delicious desserts for families with sick ones or who had suffered the loss of a loved one. Perhaps her greatest quality was truly being the hands and feet of Jesus to all she knew…always looking for ways to help and serve others.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Monday April 7, 2025, at 2 p.m. with visitation at White-Mahon Funeral Home in Troy from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Terrace Hill Cemetery. Brother Mike Wilson and family members will officiate. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
Mrs. Smith was born Oct. 21, 1931, in Obion County to the late Thomas Earl and Zada Easterwood Meador. After graduating from Cloverdale High School, she married James Rogers “Bubby” Smith on Feb. 3, 1952, and transitioned from farm life in Cloverdale to farm life in Hornbeak where she spent the rest her long and full life. Mr. Smith passed away on Jan. 14, 2023, just weeks before their 71st wedding anniversary. She was a long time member of Hornbeak Church of Christ and later Bishop Street Church of Christ.
