A HELPING HAND
A HELPING HAND — Union City Police Department patrol officer Brent Mobbs (left) loaded “Bags of Love” backpacks into a patrol vehicle at midday Tuesday outside Helping Hand Ministry on North Miles Avenue as local pastor and ministry board member Curtis McLendon and UC police patrol officer PFC Kayla Key waited to load more. Local churches and volunteers helped the ministry collect and fill backpacks of essential supplies that police officers can give to someone they encounter who may be homeless or cold and hungry. Each police patrol vehicle will have two of the backpacks — one for a male, one for a female — which are ready and available for distribution at any given time. The backpacks include clothing, personal hygiene kits, non-perishable food, a jacket, a list of resources where someone may find help and a Bible.
