John Atkins Jr.
John Bernard Atkins Jr., age 93, of Union City passed away peacefully Sunday, Aug. 18, 2024, at AHC Union City (formerly Union City Nursing & Rehab).
John was born in Salt Lake City, UT, on June 28, 1931, to John Bernard Atkins Sr. and Thelma Shafer Atkins. He married Mrs. Nancy Jones Atkins on Oct. 25, 1986.
He was a United States Navy veteran, and fought in the Korean War. He was a member of the Civitan Club and attended Shady Grove Methodist Church. He worked at Goodyear for 40 years, and retired as the Area Manager.
John is survived by his wife, Nancy Atkins of Union City; three sons, David (Linda) Atkins of Alden, MI, Steve (Kay Fleming) Atkins of Jackson, MI, and Tim (Wayne Gooding) Atkins of Jackson, MI; daughter-in-law, Pennie Atkins of Jackson, MI; his stepchildren, Kelly (Shane) Redden, Mark (Maria) Keel of Tacoma, WA; grandchildren, Heather, William (Tatiana), Autumn (Jimmy) and Ben (Austin); stepgrandchildren, Mavaney, Noah, Isabelle, Grant, Daphne, Kate, Andrew and Emily; great-grandchildren, Masen, Ciara, Emeri, Dominic and Liam; and great-great-granddaughter, Madisen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Doug Atkins; and two brothers, Edward and Larry Atkins.
Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. Family and friends are welcome to attend his graveside service, Monday, Aug. 26, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Obion County Memorial Gardens, 3939 Ken Tenn Hwy., Union City, TN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
