FACE TIME — Union City Police Chief Ben Yates (right) smashed a cream pie into Obion County Sheriff Karl Jackson’s face as rain began to fall during the seventh-inning stretch of Saturday night’s inaugural Battle of the Badges at Elam Stadium in Union City. The softball game pitted the Union City Police Department against the Obion County Sheriff’s Office in a benefit for the UCPD’s Shop With a Cop program, which provides toys and clothing for local children during a Christmas shopping experience with law enforcement. The game drew a huge crowd and raised $6,888 through admission and food sales. UC police won the game by a score of 7-2. The sheriff got pied as the result of a friendly competition based on the amount of donations collected in each department’s bucket, with Yates earning the honor of throwing the pie based on the UCPD’s total.
