OC, SF get big wins; UC falls to Nashville power
WEEK 1 ROUNDUP
Obion Central 42, Lake County 14
The Rebels got the season off to a good start by breaking a 14-all tie in the final seconds of the first half and then shutting out the Falcons while putting up three more scores after intermission in Friday’s win at Jerry Reese Stadium/Bill Wray Memorial Field in Tiptonville.
The forward pitch pass from quarterback Hamilton May to receiver Kweli Purifoy proved to be an effective weapon as the pair hooked up on the end-around play seven times for 156 yards and two scores.
The biggest of those pass plays — and the play of the game — came with 21 seconds remaining in the first half when Purifoy took the pitch and sprinted 71 yards for a score.
Jeremy Jimenez, perfect on six extra point attempts on the night, gave the Rebels a 21-14 lead.
That score came 23 seconds after the Falcons had tied the game at 14-14 when Camden Chamberlain pulled in a 13-yard TD pass from Jeremy Chaser.
May completed 10-of-11 passes for 205 yards and three touchdowns with one interception while also rushing for 119 yards and a TD on nine carries. Tucker Moore ran for 90 yards and two scores on 16 carries.
The only injury of significance for the Rebels was to head coach Justin Palmer, who hurt his knee while celebrating Bryson Underwood’s 38-yard TD reception in the first quarter. Palmer remained on the sideline, with an obvious limp, for the remainder of the game.
Calvin Mullins had 25 carries for 148 yards and a touchdown for Lake County.

South Fulton 40, Ballard Memorial, KY 0
Brady McFarland threw four touchdown passes, the Red Devils scored on defense and special teams and SF also received a gift safety in the blowout win at LaCenter Friday night.
McFarland completed 10-of-19 passes for 130 yards with scores to Dane Cirkles (24 yards), Jonathan Doss (1), Connor O’Neal (24) and Josh McKnight (30).
Conner Lawrence took a blocked punt 10 yards for a score, Harley Nagel had a 59-yard interception return for a score and the Bombers had a bad center snap on offense go into the end zone where it was recovered for a safety to round out the scoring.
In addition, Dallas Whitehead had 15 rushing attempts for 110 yards.

Ensworth 40, Union City 6
The Tigers — a Division II, Class AAA program from Nashville — broke from a tight 12-6 lead after one quarter with two touchdowns in the second period and two more in the third to win Friday’s season-opener over the Golden Tornadoes at War Memorial Stadium/Randy Barnes Field.
Union City got on the board first with a 79-yard punt return for a touchdown from Tayehari Jones at 9:26 of the first quarter.
Micah Smith scored the first of his two TDs on a 25-yard run near the mid-point of the opening to tie the game at 6-all, and then Demarli Thompson gave Ensworth the lead for good on a 57-yard scamper.
Smith, Zaidyn Moore, Hayden Caldwell and Mason Curtis all had a touchdown for the Tigers, Moore on a pass from Isiah Batten and Curtis on a fumble return.
Jacob Arnold led the Tornado offense, held to 188 total yards, with 63 yards on 14 rushing attempts.
