Carrie Marie Newmon Davis, 97, of Kenton left this earth and entered her heavenly home on Saturday, July 22, 2023. She passed away peacefully at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 27, 2023, at First Baptist Church in Kenton, with the Rev. Wayne Perkins and Dr. Charles Pratt officiating. Graveside services will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery in Kenton.
Visitation will be held at the church on today, July 26, from 5-7 p.m., and from 10 a.m. until the hour of service on Thursday.
Pallbearers will be Luke Sanderson, Andrew Nipp, Landon Nipp, Jason Dement, Tim Workman and Jeff Heathcott. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Joe Mac Warren Sunday School class.
Karnes & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Davis was born Aug. 13, 1925, to the late John Wesley Newmon and Iola Tilghman Dement Newmon. She was an employee of First State Bank for 50 years, where she served as Cashier and Assistant Vice President. She was a member of First Baptist Church for over 80 years. She taught 4-and 5-year-olds in Sunday School for 60 years and was a member of the choir. She also served as a Brownie and Girl Scout Troop leader. During World War II, she worked for MGM studios in Memphis, selling war bonds at a movie theater. She enjoyed working in her flowers, playing piano and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband of 76 years, Joe Ray Davis; two daughters, Mary Jo Parker (Jeff) of Austin, Ark., and Carolyn Nipp (Tim) of Union City; three grandsons, Luke Sanderson (Julie) of Memphis, Andrew Nipp (Laura) of Union City and Landon Nipp of Union City; three great-grandchildren, Aaron, Austin and Anna Beth Nipp of Union City; two nieces, Ellen Newmon Smith of Englewood, Fla., and Susie Newmon Sturdivant (Terry) of Kenton; and one nephew, W.G. “Sonny” Dement (Beth) of Jackson.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Wray Newmon, Willie George Dement and Andrew F. Newmon; one niece, Lynn Dement Payne; and two nephews, James Newmon and Johnny Newmon.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Kenton Children’s Ministry or St. Jude Children’s Re-search Hospital in Mem-phis.
