SEEK & FIND

SEEK & FIND — Firefighter 1st Class David Wall (left) handed over a doll, simulating a fire victim, to firefighter Robbie VanHolten during a training exercise Thursday morning at the Union City Fire Department’s smoke house at Central Fire Station. The exercise focused on conducting search and rescue in homes where hoarding is an issue, with firefighters putting on full gear to maneuver the smoky building and overcome several obstacles, such as furniture and various debris, to find “victims.” They also did a scenario which involved rescuing a downed firefighter and rendering aid. UCFD training officer Keith Robinson said it’s estimated that 5 percent of American homes have hoarding conditions.
