MSHN (Mid-South Health Net) Enterprises hosted their first ever Valentine’s Day Prom In Martin. The event was held at the Wesley Foundation building, which they rented as space to hold the event. MSHN Enterprises is located out of Germantown and they provide therapeutic psycho-social rehabilitation groups, community outings and medication management. They also offer housing services to individuals who have complex behavioral issues or medical issues in addition to mental illness. They are not just a group home, but a full-service supportive living program staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
MSHN Enterprises provides constant care, support, and supervision of individuals 18 years of age and older who have special needs related to their severe and persistent mental illness. They emphasize the need to take medication to maximize mental health and their goal is to establish a therapeutic environment so the individuals in their care will be able to develop skills that foster independence and support long term recovery and reintegration into the community. MSHN contracts through Generations for their mental health providers.
Deputy Chief Operations Officer for Jolie and brady House Tina Lewis said that the prom was put on for those individuals in Jolie House and Brady House.
“Our activity directors are amazing, and we want everyone in our houses to have fun and have a good time and this is one of the things we’re doing for them.” She takes care of eight men in Martin and eight ladies in Union City. “They are so very excited for this event.”
Robbin Davis is the activity Director for Jolie House and most of the decorations for the event were bought out of her own pocket to help make the event special for the individuals involved. The event was catered by Local Street Cookie in Dresden and Fancy Fannies Bakery in Fulton. The event was a great success, and everyone had a fun time eating, dancing and taking pictures. Winners for King and Queen for the prom were McKenzie and Travis.
MSHN hopes to continue the Valentine’s Day Prom every year to help provide a fun activity for individuals in their houses.
