Sara Abbott

Mrs. Sara Ann Hurt Abbott, age 87, of Rutherford, passed away from this life on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022, at her residence. Funeral service was conducted on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at the Rutherford Chapel of Karnes & Son Funeral Home with Bro. Marlon Stephen and Bro. Sammy Dowland officiating. Interment followed in the Rutherford Cemetery. Mrs. Abbott was born Nov. 8, 1934, in Mason Hall, daughter of the late Joe Raines and Mary L. Jessup Hurt. She worked as the city recorder for the town of Rutherford for 33 years until her retirement and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Rutherford. She was active for many years in North-Gibson Relay for Life events, Davy Crockett Days Festivals and Rutherford Cemetery Society. She is survived by three children, Don (Donna) Abbott of Dyer, Danise (Tim) Hazlewood of Martin and Alan (Tracy) Abbott of Rutherford; brother, Jim Hurt of Union City; five grandchildren, Jacob (Rachel) Abbott, Logan (Chasity) Abbott, Victoria Abbott, Faith Abbott and Maddie (Danny) Bitter; and five great-grandchildren, Jaxon Abbott, Chandler Abbott, Mason Abbott, Cooper Abbott and Briggs Abbott.
Mrs. Abbott was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Dan Bell Abbott; and siblings, Joe Hurt, Jr., Louise Petty, Robert Curtis Hurt and George Hurt.
