John Brooks Polsgrove, 88, of Bardwell, Ky., passed from this life peacefully at home on Dec. 1, 2021, with his wife, Claudia Moore Polsgrove, and his three children, sons, John A.W. (Cristina) and William; and daughter, Dr. Teresa Wade (Dr. Jerry) with him. John had two grandsons and five stepsons. There will be no services.
John grew up on the family farm of his grandparents, Almus and Linda Polsgrove, north of Union City, where his grandfather was a railroad telegrapher.
John graduated from Union City High School, where he earned a football scholarship to Georgia Tech. He later married Joyce Parker and joined the Air Force. He and his wife and three children were stationed in Japan and on the island of Kwajalein.
After the Air Force, John completed his degree in electrical engineering, and worked in that field. He last worked at West Vaco in Wickliffe Ky., as an electrical engineer and safety engineer. No one was killed or seriously injured on his watch.
In mid-life, John was called to ordained Christian ministry. He married Claudia Drane Moore, who had also answered a call to ordained ministry. Together they served Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) congregations in western Kentucky and Union City, and United Church of Paducah. They helped build a church in Mexico. In his retirement, John continued his interests in ham radio, telegraphy and building model trains.
